Disaster Relief

DID YOU KNOW? The American Red Cross Serving Trumbull & Mercer Counties has responded to over 150 local disasters this year!

Red Cross disaster relief focuses on meeting people's immediate emergency disaster-caused needs. When a disaster threatens or strikes, Disaster Action Teams provide victims with emergency food, clothing, shelter, medical care and supplies. In addition to these services, the core of Red Cross disaster relief is the assistance given to individuals and families affected by disaster to enable them to resume their normal daily activities independently.

ALL DISASTER RELIEF IS FREE MADE POSSIBLE BY DONATIONS FROM THE AMERICAN PEOPLE

Service to the Armed Forces

The American Red Cross is uniquely equipped to provide an exclusive worldwide communications and support network that serves as a lifeline between military service members and their families. For the American soldier and his or her family, the Red Cross is the connection to home, relaying urgent information -- a family crisis, a death in the family, a financial emergency, or a joyous birth. Our Frequently Asked Questions give a glimpse into some of the ways the Red Cross provides a shoulder to lean on for U.S. military families every day, 24 hours a day, around the world.

The American Red Cross is implementing a sweeping modernization for its Service to the Armed Forces (SAF) utilizing the latest technology to improve and consolidate emergency communications and case management activities for service members. More local, trained volunteers or chapter staff rather than national sector staff will provide services to service members.

Emergency Financial Assistance
The Red Cross works with the military aid societies (Army Emergency Relief, Navy Marine Corps Relief Society, Air Force Aid Society and the Coast Guard Mutual Assistance). This partnership helps to provide financial assistance for emergency travel which requires the presence of the service member or his or her family, burial of a loved one, or with assistance that cannot wait until the next business day (food, temporary lodging, urgent medical needs, or the minimum amount required to avoid eviction, utility shut off, etc.)

Community Programs

The Red Cross Serving Trumbull & Mercer County work closely with local agencies providing assistance such as utility, furniture, clothing, appliances, employment, housing, etc. When residents in our community have such needs we provide them with these resources.
